The GP2 Series was founded in 2005 by F1 rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone and former Renault F1 Team Principle, Flavio Briatore with the aim of having a main feeder category for young racing drivers to get into F1. GP2 follows the F1 circus around the European races with other events being held in the Middle East.
GP2 is the most popular feeder series to Formula 1 and many drivers use it as a launch pad to get into the top level of motorsport. You can see some of the famous names who have made their name in GP2 here.
