The 2016 pre-season testing dates have been announced by GP2 Series organisers and it was revealed that two events will be held in March.

Circuit de Catalunya will host the first three-day test from 9-11 March while the second will take place at Jerez from 29-31 of the same month.

Pre-season testing last season was held in the Middle East at Yas Marina and Sakhir just before the start of the season in Bahrain.

The 2016 race calendar is yet to be announced but it is logistically impossible for the curtain raising event to be held in Bahrain alongside F1 as the Grand Prix weekend starts just one day after the second GP2 test ends.

The next viable start date for the season is supporting the Russian Grand Prix on 1 May.
