The FIA has accepted an offer from the GP2 promoter (GP2 Series Limited) to run the new FIA F2 Championship.

After a World Motor Sport Council meeting held in Paris yesterday (2 December) it was announced that a mandate had been handed to the President of the FIA Jean Todt to formalise the contract between GP2 and the FIA itself.

This comes after much speculation that the last racing weekend of the 2015 GP2 season was the last in the history of the championship.

It is unknown when the mandate will be accepted by the President and when F2 will have its debut season.
