Stoffel Vandoorne has dominated Practice in Sochi and set the fastest time of 1:45.326 which was seven tenths ahead of his nearest rival.
The circuit was slippery in places due to a diesel spillage before F1’s Free Practice session earlier in the day. It dried out before the end of GP2 Practice so drivers could push without worry.
Raffaele Marciello set the first representative lap time with a 1:51.465 and then times began to tumble markedly.
Pierre Gasly and his DAMS team mate Alex Lynn both had a small stint at the top of the standings before Stoffel Vandoorne went a full second quicker.
Alexander Rossi was exploring the limits in the session and ran deep at turn two and later had a spin in the second sector. The American continued without hitting the wall.
The second half of the session was straightforward with drivers getting their setups dialed in. Stoffel Vandoorne ended Practice as the fastest man with his time of 1:45.326.
The Campos drivers finished second and third and it was Rio Haryanto who had the edge over Arthur Pic.
