2013 GP2 Series Champion Fabio Leimer will get his first outing in an official F1 session this weekend at the Hungaroring.
The Manor F1 Team Reserve Driver will take over Roberto Merhi’s car in FP1 on Friday morning for the first time after bagging the role last month.
26-year-old Leimer has driven F1 cars on two previous occasions. The Swiss driver was one of Sauber’s drivers in the post-season Young Driver Test in 2011.
Lotus F1 Team also gifted him a day in its 2012 car at Magny-Cours after winning the GP2 title.
“On this most difficult of weekends for the team, I am very appreciative of their decision to continue with my planned FP1 session,” Leimer said.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity and I hope I can make a positive contribution to the engineering programme for the weekend.”
