Fabio Leimer will line up on the Formula E grid for the first time this weekend when the series visits London for its final event of the season.
The 2013 GP2 Series Champion will drive for Virgin Racing in London and partner his main rival from his title winning year, Sam Bird.
Former F1 racer Jaime Alguersuari is the man Leimer is to replace at the Virgin team having had his racing licence suspended by the FIA after he fainted following the Moscow ePrix earlier this month.
“As a racing driver, I love a challenge and so joining Virgin Racing for the Visa London ePrix will be a great test,” Leimer said.
“It’s going to be an incredible and unique experience racing on the London street circuit and an even more special occasion racing for a new team in their home race.
“I’m looking forward to racing alongside Sam and hopefully contributing to a successful season finale for the team.”
Since winning the GP2 title in 2013, Leimer has raced in the World Endurance Championship for Swiss team Rebellion Racing and made his debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
More recently Leimer teamed up with Manor F1 to act as the team’s official Test Driver.
