Rio Haryanto has won his second race of the season after holding off an attack from Artem Markelov in the early stages and Stoffel Vandoorne in the final few laps.

Nick Yelloly started the race from reverse grid pole position but a slow getaway and contact in the first corner saw the Brit tumble to last place and later retire within a few laps. Alex Lynn started from sixth but stalled on the grid and had to be pushed to start his race from the pit lane.

Rio Haryanto inherited the race lead before the second corner and led Artem Markelov and Stoffel Vandoorne who started in eighth place.

Markelov was told by his engineer to look after his tyres but got frustrated with just over ten laps to go and lunged at Haryanto at turn three which resulted in the Russian dropping to P6 behind his team mate Mitch Evans while Haryanto himself suffered minor front wing damage.

Vandoorne and his Japanese team mate Nobuharu Matsushita became the two rear gunners behind Haryanto and chased the Indonesian down in the final ten laps.

In the final two laps spots of rain began to fall which made conditions that extra bit tricky to master. Rio Haryanto held on to the race lead to secure his second Sprint Race victory of the season after his maiden win in Bahrain back in April.

Stoffel Vandoorne got his seventh podium finish of the season with second place while Nobuharu Matsushita got his hands on GP2 silverware for the first time after finishing third place.

Sergey Sirotkin’s impressive form this weekend continued with fourth place today and Mitch Evans rounded out the top five.
