ART Grand Prix drive Nobuharu Matsushita posted the fastest time on day two in testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.

A sandstorm overnight delayed the start of the morning session by one hour as the track had to be cleared of the sand and dust left in its wake. Jordan King and Arthur Pic were the first drivers out on track when the session eventually went live but Alexander Rossi set the fastest pace as most teams concentrated on race starts and pit stop practice.

With one hour left on the clock drivers started to put in some quali laps; Alex Lynn went fastest before Jordan King and then Arthur Pic came back to better Lynn’s time. Rapax driver Sergey Sirotkin went fastest of anyone in the dying minutes with a lap time of 1:41.797. The morning ended with Sirotkin fastest ahead of King, Lynn, Rio Haryanto and Pic.

The start of the afternoon session saw former GP3 team mates Richie Stanaway and Nick Yelloly set the early pace but Marco Sørensen was the first of the 26 drivers to break the 1m 42s barrier. Race runs were generally the order of the day in the afternoon session up until the final 15 minutes.

Raffaele Marciello set a time of 1:40.446 before Nobuharu Matsushita bettered the Italian’s time by three tenths of a second and he stayed there until the chequered flag fell on the second day. Pic was in second place ahead of Marciello, Sirotkin and Sørensen.
