Daniel Abt has elected to miss the final event of the 2014 season in Abu Dhabi.

Hilmer Motorsport’s star driver will contest the second race of the Formula E season in Malaysia which falls on the same weekend of the GP2 season ending event in Abu Dhabi.

Abt is in his second year of GP2 and has only scored points in five races. An improvement on last year at least but far off what is usually expected from the 2012 GP3 Vice-Champion.

The world’s first fully-electric racing series had its first race last month at the Olympic Park in Beijing where Abt had a podium finish taken away from him for a pit-lane infringement. The German was eventually classified tenth.

A replacement for Abt is yet to be announced by the Hilmer team.
