GP2 is flying through its tenth season and arrives at the Hockenheimring in Germany more than halfway through this year’s campaign.
The 200th race in GP2 Series history will be the Feature Race on Saturday afternoon. So much history has been made in the past 199 starts including nine worthy champions, F1 drivers, race winners and even a World Champion. What will the 200th bring?
Last time GP2 raced in Hockenheim was two years ago when Giedo van der Garde and James Calado were victorious in the Feature and Sprint Races respectively. You can be forgiven for not being able to remember those races all too well as they weren’t anything to write home about. Here’s to an enthralling couple of races this time out.
Jolyon Palmer heads into Round 6 in the lead of the Drivers’ Standings over Felipe Nasr by 38 points while DAMS has a twelve point lead over Carlin in the Teams’ Standings.
Over the two week break since Silverstone it was announced that Alexander Rossi had left the Caterham fold which left him without a drive. However, later on in the same day Campos Racing put out a press release saying that it had taken Rossi under its wing for this weekend as Kimiya Sato is concentrating on his Auto GP campaign in Austria. The vacant seat at EQ8 Caterham Racing has been filled by fan favourite Tom Dillmann for at least the next two events.
A less noteworthy piece of news is MP Motorsport updating its livery. Less orange, more white. I like it.
