EQ8 Caterham Racing driver Alexander Rossi has parted company with the team.

Rossi announced on Wednesday (16/07/2014) morning that he was to leave Caterham GP2 as well as the Caterham F1 Team.

Struggling in GP2 after strong pre-season tests, Rossi has only managed to secure ten points with Caterham so far this season.

The American was set to drive in F1 Free Practice sessions later on in the season but this is now out of the question following his split from the Caterham fold.

With Gene Haas’ Formula 1 team entry being accepted for the 2016 season, it could be predicted that Rossi will join that journey and pursue a seat with the team.

Alexander Rossi: “I will no longer be racing for Caterham as of today. It’s been an emotional couple of years with the team, the highlight being driving with them in Austin last year. Now it’s time to move on. My goal is to be in F1 and add value to the sport and I’m very optimistic about my next steps; we have a great opportunity to grow the sport in the States and I believe the timing is perfect.”
